Update from Les Mills Australia: As an example under the new scheme a Club with 30 classes on the timetable would pay $23,400 per year to the PPCA (30 classes multiplied by $15) from the previous $1510 per year (30 classes multiplied by 96.8c) - representing a 1500% increase in annual fees.Les Mills has contributed over $250,000 fighting the legal case against the PPCA on behalf of its licensees through Operation Music ( www.operationmusic.org.au ). As a market leader in this space we are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed for our Licensed Clubs, Instructors and Participants alike. The decision handed down yesterday by the Copyright Tribunal makes it fundamentally very difficult for Continue Reading »
You know you’re a BODYCOMBAT instructor if….?
You know every word to the scooter tracks…even though you haven't got a clue what it means! You can hear a BC track on the radio and within 2 seconds know the next chore cueThe speed of your car depends on which BC track you are listening to…you always end up breaking the speed limit by the Muay Thai track! You have random girls come up to you in a bar/supermarket and start talking to you like you are long lost friends and you haven't got a clue who they are..(until they tell you which class they attend and where they usually stand)You hear a random track on the radio and immediately think…hmmm what combat move would fit this music? You thinks it's fun to make up new combinations to songs on Continue Reading »
Update on PPCA Case
Permission to reproduce this article obtained from Les Mills Australia Pacific Now that closing submissions for the PPCA case have finally been heard at the Copyright Tribunal, we thought it timely to give you an update on the case and our assessment of the likely outcome. Members of the fitness industry have been subjected to a large amount of misinformed rumour about the likely outcome and its implications for the fitness industry.Just to recap, PPCA's claim was to have the tariff increased from its current level of 97 cents per fitness class to $4.54 per member per month and $0.99 per visit for a casual attendee at a fitness centre. The proposed tariff would be payable by the club Continue Reading »

Welcome to the NEW LOOK of Totally Les Mills!
We hope you will find this new website layout easier to access, since we had a lot of feedback on the old site that the tracklists were too difficult to navigate. So the tracklists are now driven by a database with new search option that, as far as we know, is not available on any other tracklist site! initially it will have basic search functionality and features and won't include the sizzlers and all the other information you're used to, but extra features will be added progressively. The fact that it's now using a database means the possibilities are endless to what we can do with the tracklists and we are currently working on some ideas that we can bring to you.I think people will Continue Reading »

the bid on cool stuff auction
Proceeds towards fighting unfair copyright fees Currently there is a huge threat to the existence of group exercise in Australia as PPCA makes a move to increase music tariffs (the royalty fee that is paid for the privilege of using music in group fitness classes). Therefore Operation M.U.S.I.C. has been an initiative created by Fitness Australia to fight this proposed increase, but is relying on funding and donations for the cause. The PPCA have recently won a case against the nightclub industry and are now currently trying to propose extreme increases in the amount paid in copyright fees for group fitness classes. For more information check out operationmusic.org.au. The worrying Continue Reading »

Lunch with Phillip Mills
This wasn’t the first time I’ve met Phillip Mills, however it was the first time I’ve actually had an organised meeting with him for an informal lunch. I walked up the stairs to LMI and entered the offices. The receptionist pointed to a door which I’ve walked past many times now, indicating Phillips office. Wow, so now I know which is his office, right next to the Marketing Director’s office. We casually said hello and after deciding where we would go for lunch we went across the road to a small café where we then spent about an hour chatting about Les Mills, the programs and how they started. Probably the thing that took me most by surprise was that Phillip taught, what is now known as Continue Reading »
Sydney Filex Super Workshop!
The Sydney Super Workshop in conjunction with FILEX has become an annual destination for some of us forum members and this year proved to be the biggest of them yet! The professionalism has been raised just another notch and puts a lot of shame on my own baby launches back home. The trainers were a lot less to be seen around this year with them spending every spare last moment practising and de-briefing. The effort showed. Dramatic entrances, smoke filled air, lights and action. It was all there. This year was the first year I participated in attack at FILEX. Having only trained in attack recently I never did it in previous years. But this year it was really special for me to attack Continue Reading »
A day in the life of LMI
When I first stepped into a BODYSTEP class at NRG Fitness Centre in early 2004, I would never have imagined myself standing outside LMI Head Office in New Zealand waiting for Mark Nu’u to pick me up. Well I was, and as Mark pulled up in his Mini Cooper Convertible I was ready to run away. One of my idols was picking me up and we were going to teach a class together at Les Mills New Lynn. This doesn’t happen to me, I’m just an ordinary instructor that lives in the small country town of Young, but today my dream (well part of it – the other is taking Mark’s job) did happen as I was spending a day in the life of Les Mills International. Mark is a great guy and extremely friendly; Continue Reading »
Correction in BODYBALANCE™ 35 DVD
It has been highlighted that on the BODYBALANCE™ 35 DVD that there is a discrepancy in the Tai Chi between the masterclass on the DVD and the Focus and Feel in the education session. In the middle of the track there is a move in between doing the Wu Sequence which occurs at 2:54 minutes. In the masterclass Lee Parore teaches this with the same arm forward as the leg that is bent. However when Jackie goes through this move in the Focus and Feel, she demonstrates it with opposite arm forward to the leg that is bent (I expect you to switch forward and back between both these sections and get thoroughly confused like I did!). So which way is correct and which should BODYBALANCE™ Continue Reading »
